I don't have to go any further than Wikipedia to prove my point. For those too dumb to see it, let me say it, 700 miles of fence is useless in stopping illegals. They'll just move to a different route. Yet it was so important to a few who know nothing and it cost the election.
The international border between Mexico and the United States runs from San Diego, California, and Tijuana, Baja California, in the west to Matamoros, Tamaulipas, and Brownsville, Texas, in the east. It traverses a variety of terrains, ranging from major urban areas to inhospitable deserts. From the border crossing at El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, to the east, it follows the course of the Rio Grande (Río Bravo del Norte) to the Gulf of Mexico; from the same binational conurbation westward to the Pacific Ocean, it crosses vast tracts of the Sonoran and Chihuahuan Deserts, the Colorado River Delta, and the northernmost tip of the Baja California Peninsula.
The border's total length is 1,951 miles (3,141 km), according to figures given by the International Boundary and Water Commission.[1] It is the most frequently crossed international border in the world, with some 350 million people crossing (legally) every year.[2]
And if that isn't enough, there is the northern border that is almost completely exposed:
If you look along the International Boundary between Canada and the United States in any forested area, it will appear simply as a 6 metre or 20 foot cleared swath a long open vista stretching from horizon to horizon, dotted in a regular pattern with white markers. Over mountains, down cliffs, along waterways and through prairie grasses, the line snakes 8,891 kilometres or 5,525 miles across North America, tranquil, undefended but not uncared for.
So what the hell is 700 miles of fence going to do? We need to put the money into electronic surveillance and then get to work on the enforcement in the form of denying housing, health care, employment and schooling to anyone who is not here legally. We need to stop printing everything in two languages. Learn English and assimilate. We need to stop denying employment to legal citizens because they are not bilingual. Many jobs in So. California are unavailable to American citizens because they can't speak Spanish. We need to put the money into databses that give instant answers to both the Border Patrol and the potential employers. There are lots of things we should be concentrating on, but the loudmouth elitist crybabies of the Republican party aren't going to be satisfied in having lost us one election, they want to lose them all for the next generation. Way to go!
