DEFEAT JOHN MURTHA. Send this senile old man home to his rocking chair. He should be in jail, but I'll settle for a resounding defeat.
MURTHA DECLARES BUSH A 'FAILED PRESIDENT;' IREY SUGGESTS HE LOOK IN A MIRROR IF HE WANTS TO SEE
POLITICAL 'FAILURE'
(MONONGAHELA, October 20) -- Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey -- responding to Jack Murtha's declaration in a teleconference press conference earlier today that President George W. Bush is a "failed President" and his is a "failed presidency" -- today released this statement:
"Once again, Jack Murtha has proven that shooting from the lip is a recipe for disaster. Earlier today, on a teleconference press conference with U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton and U.S. Rep. Tom Lantos, Jack Murtha declared that George W. Bush is a 'failed President,' and declared that his is a 'failed presidency.' This just goes to show how far out of touch Jack Murtha really is.
"Perhaps if Jack Murtha actually spent some time looking at what's going on around him, rather than spending all his time ducking a debate with me so he can campaign for pro-choice, pro-gun-control liberal Democratic candidates, he would know better.
"The stock market just broke through the 12,000 mark on the Dow Jones for the first time in history. That's a 12 percent gain just this year alone. Thanks to the tax cuts championed by President Bush, total household net worth is up by a stunning $14 TRILLION, and shareholder net worth has increased by almost $6 TRILLION since the May 2003 tax cuts.
"More people are working in this country than ever before, and homeownership is at its highest level ever. Taxes are down, and incomes are up. That means families have more time to spend together.
"On the national security front, it is President Bush's administration that has prevented another attack on the American homeland for more than five years -- despite what we know of several attempts by al Qaeda to do just that. It is President Bush's administration that pushed for new tools for our intelligence and law enforcement communities -- tools like the USA PATRIOT Act, the Military Commissions Act, and the NSA terrorist surveillance program - that have worked to prevent the terrorists from succeeding in attacking the American homeland again.
"But perhaps Jack Murtha doesn't want to talk about those things, because he voted AGAINST them: Against the tax cuts. Against the extension of the USA PATRIOT Act. Against the Military Commissions Act.
"Perhaps Jack Murtha should look in a mirror the next time he wants to discuss 'failure' in politics."____________________________
IREY TO MURTHA: 'DEFEATOCRAT?' YOU SAID IT, NOT ME
(MONONGAHELA, October 16) -- Washington County Commissioner and
Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey -- responding to Jack Murtha's op-ed piece, "Confessions of a 'Defeatocrat,' in yesterday's Washington Post -- today released this statement:"Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of 10 million Iraqis going to the polls to cast their ballots to approve the Iraqi Constitution. And how did Jack Murtha respond? By penning an op-ed piece in the Washington Post in which he whined about how his political opponents are engaged in what he calls 'baseless name-calling' for pointing out that he and many of his fellow Democrats offer no solution to the ongoing conflict in Iraq other than withdrawal in defeat and disgrace. Mr. Murtha's response to those who dare disagree with him, as laid out in a fundraising solicitation he sent out on behalf of the ultraliberal group MoveOn.org last week? 'Screw them,' he wrote.
"Pot, meet kettle. Kettle, meet pot.
"Rather than engage in name-calling, baseless or otherwise, Jack Murtha would serve his constituents and his country better by offering something other than the one-word platform he now offers -- 'No.'
"In his op-ed piece, Mr. Murtha says Democrats 'are determined to restore our nation's military strength, refocus on the real terrorist threat, bolster security safeguards at home and reestablish the credible standing we once had in the world.'
"'Restore our nation's military strength?' From a man who declared that American Marines at Haditha had 'killed innocent civilians in cold blood' before the first Marine was charged, before the first court-martial was convened, before the first Marine was convicted, that's quite a statement. Or does Mr. Murtha not consider the morale of our armed forces when he speaks of 'restoring military strength?'
"'Refocus on the real terrorist threat?' From a man who voted against the Military Commission Act and against the reauthorization of the USA PATRIOT Act -- the two most important pieces of legislation passed by the Congress since 9/11 -- and who believes that the U.S. Government should not be listening in when suspected al Qaeda terrorists are talking to their contacts in the United States, that, too, is quite a statement.
"'Bolster security safeguards at home?' From a man who voted against enhanced border security twice in this Congress -- voting, in fact, to continue to allow hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens and goodness knows how many terrorists to slip across our borders with impunity -- that, too, is quite a statement.
"'Reestablish the credible standing we once had in the world?' From a man who wants us to withdraw from Iraq before the mission is completed -- which would send a signal to the terrorists that if they kill enough Americans, they can drive us out, and which would send a message to other nations that the U.S. is an unreliable ally, and that it's better for their own safety and security to cut a deal with the terrorists than with us -- that, too, is quite a statement.
"Nothing Jack Murtha has said about withdrawing U.S. forces from Iraq addresses one simple problem -- in the wake of a premature withdrawal, we would leave Iraq to the terrorists who would completely destabilize the nation and turn it into a new haven for international terrorists.
"Jack Murtha is wrong. And that's not 'name-calling,' that's just calling a spade a spade."

WHY IS JACK SCARED TO DEBATE? REASON NUMBER 17: HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW THAT HE WRONGLY ACCUSED U.S. MARINES OF COLD-BLOODED MURDER
(MONONGAHELA, October 20) -- Washington County Commissioner and
Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey - responding to Jack Murtha's refusal to meet with her to debate the issues, despite newspaper editorials urging him to debate, a League of Women Voters offer to host and sponsor a debate, and local television stations' offer to air the debate -- today released this statement:
"Monday we began our 21-part series, 'Why doesn't Jack want to debate?' wherein I suggest 21 reasons Jack Murtha might be refusing to debate me in public.
"Today I offer reason number 17 Jack Murtha is scared to debate me: because HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW THAT HE WRONGLY ACCUSED U.S. MARINES OF COLD-BLOODED MURDER.
"On May 17, 2006, referring to the actions of U.S. Marines at Haditha, Iraq, on November 19, 2005, Jack Murtha said Marines 'killed innocent civilians in cold blood' - before the first Marine was charged, before the first court-martial was convened, before the first Marine was convicted.
"Jack Murtha acted as prosecutor, judge, and jury, passing sentence on men in the heat of battle thousands of miles away without any personal knowledge of what occurred there that day, and before any investigation had been completed.
"Our troops shouldn't have to worry about defending their reputations while they're defending our freedoms."
For those keeping score, here's the running scorecard:
21 REASONS JACK IS SCARED TO DEBATE: HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW:
21. He has voted himself 12 straight pay raises.
20. He has voted to raise his own pay from $42,500/yr to $165,500/yr.
19. He tried to take a $50,000 cash bribe from an undercover agent for the FBI.
18. His "investment defense" was nothing more than a ruse to hide his $50,000 cash bribe from an undercover agent for the FBI.
17. He wrongfully accused U.S. Marines of cold-blooded murder.
And let us not forget this one:
WHY DOESN'T JACK WANT TO DEBATE? REASON NUMBER 18: HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW THAT HIS 'INVESTMENT DEFENSE' WAS NOTHING MORE THAN A RUSE TO HIDE HIS $50,000 CASH BRIBE FROM AN UNDERCOVER AGENT FOR THE FBI

"Check it out for yourself -- go watch the FBI ABSCAM surveillance video of Jack Murtha explaining to FBI undercover agent Tony Amoroso about his need for a 'business commitment' in the district so he could cover up his acceptance of a $50,000 cash bribe:
"'A business commitment that makes it imperative for me to help him. Just, let me tell you something. I'm sure if -- and there's a lot of things I've done up here, with environmental regulations, with all kinds of waivers of laws and regulations. If it weren't for being in the district, people would say . "Well that [expletive deleted], I'm gonna tell you something . This guy is, uh, you know, on the take." Well once they say that, what happens? Then they start going around looking for the [expletive deleted] money. So I want to avoid that by having some tie to the district. That's all. That's the secret to the whole thing.'"
"'That's the secret to the whole thing.' Investment not for the sake of investment, but because 'that's the secret' to how you can take a bribe and get away with it.
