After posting my Father's Day post that included my Dad's obit from the Johnstown [PA] Tribune, I got an inbox full of emails feeling sorry for me that my hometown was Johnstown, the home of Rep. Jack "Moonbat" "Cut and Run" Murtha.
I decided to check out the coverage of Murtha (last article was about running for Majority Leader and there were several about his strong AFL-CIO support) and his challenger Diana Irey (forget it, she is mentioned in passing in articles about Murtha or low voter turnout over a month ago) by the Johnstown Tribune Democrat. The problem is, there is no coverage to speak of. This I find appalling and I wrote the same to the newspaper's editor, Chip Minemeyer.
As one who was born and raised in Johnstown, PA, I am appalled that your newspaper has failed so badly at detailing what the rest of the country thinks about Rep. John Murtha. The blogosphere is ablaze with calls for this senile old man’s defeat and the support for Diana Irey is worldwide. Vets are outraged at Murtha’s “cut and run” remarks and his latest lunacy of redeploying our forces to, of all places, Okinawa is a perfect example of his senility. Money is pouring into Irey’s campaign from our soldiers in Iraq, from friends in California and 46 other states, from constituents in the 12th. Unfortunately, for those in the 12th, they have to go out to the Internet to find out what a total moonbat your local Congressman is. You owe them more.
For just a taste, you might want to take a look at:

Now I don't pretend to have the writing skills worthy of being published in the newspaper and my email reflects my personal opinion of being "appalled" and reflects my feeling of the outrage around the blogosphere. I am appalled. But apparently Mr. Minemyer does not agree as his response a few hours later notes:
"Appalled seems a bit extreme.
Thanks for writing."
That's it. I answered back that I would change my original post to read "ashamed" but so far no response on that.
If you are appalled at John Murtha's senile remarks and you find it shameful that the hometown newspaper not only does not cover this but completely ignores his challenger, Diana Irey, maybe you can take the time to write to Chip Minemyer and let him know that you are also appalled or ashamed or pick your own description. If you think I'm all wet and deserved Minemyer's conclusion, you can tell me that too, comments are always open.
Thanks for listening.

I don't mind admitting at this point that it is at times like this that I wish had the reach of Glenn Reynolds or Michelle Malkin. It is frustrating to know that this message will probably not reach a very large audience.
It's truly a shame that the Johnstown paper won't write much about Ms. Irey. Still, don't be bashful about stopping past Murtha Must Go @ www.murthamustgo.blogspot.com, Psycmeistr's Ice Palace @ http://psycmeistr.blogspot.com/ or Let Freedom Ring Blog @ www.letfreedomringblog.com for the best & fastest & most in depth reporting on the Murtha vs. Irey race.

He's right. "Appalled" is probably not the right word. I think "incensed", "indignent", "enraged" are probably better choices. Clinically speaking, I believe Mr. Murtha has too much plaque buildup on his brain. It's past time to put him out to pasture.

Appalled is definitely too mild a word. Is Mr. Minemyer the owner, or does he work for someone who might be more interested in getting the truth out to the voters?
