More than a year ago, I wrote about a guy I saw on TV who was trying to justify arresting a 6 year old for a temper tantrum. What I had to say about him then was less than flattering. Well, who shows up on my TV screen tonight, but the same guy. On Scarborough Country in a segment to do with this new and crazy law in Texas where cops go into the bars and decide who has had enough to drink and arrests those who appear to have had one too many.
There was Ric Robinson again trying to justify the unjustifiable. I think his rationalization for the blatant disregard for personal liberty was something about keeping the drunks off the roads. Now, there is no one more against drunk driving than I am. In fact, there is no one more against excessive drinking than I am. But, getting behind the wheel of a car and being in a bar having fun are way way different things. If safety is the goal, then let the cops sit in the parking lot or establish themselves at the door and get the inebriated ones as they hit the pavement. You don't go in and willy nilly start arresting people with no proof of how much they've had to drink or even if they intend to drive. Most groups of people that I've socialized with in the last 15 years tend to the designated driver routine. And what about those hotel bars? Or is drunk elevator operation now a crime?
This Ric Robinson is a real piece of work. Can you imagine having to be his next door neighbor?

We are going to take this as meaning Ric Robinson has a sense of humor (the alternative would be a little scary to contemplate)
