Once every few years, a TV commercial comes along that catches the public's attention in such a way to become part of our culture and/or language. The most famous is probably, "Where's the beef?" but there are lots of others that I'm sure we all remember to some degree. An old cigarette ad, "Winston takes good like a cigarette should," upset my English teacher so much, she spent an entire class on the point that grammatically it should be "as a cigarrete should." And, I'm sure we all remember some of those Alka Selzter ads, from "Plop, Plop, Fizz, fizz" to "that'sa spicey meatball." Some are so ingrained, we can instantly name the product when we hear, "wonder where the yellow went," "there goes dirt down the drain," "the uncola" "I'm a pepper," "double your flavor, double your fun," "melts in your mouth, not on your fingers," "good to the last drop," or "hey Mabel."
My vote for this year goes to Adelphia Cable with two entries. The first is the "ooooooh its Magic" and my vote for all time number one for the year ... "somewhere angry obviously."
